GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: THE DANDADDA The University of Dub presents the 'Roots Dance Illuminate' on the 27th of October at the Scala in Kings Cross. Birthed by producer Dan Vinci, The Dandadda has enlisted the help of the infamous Ragga Twins on their latest single 'Last Man Standing'. The track gives off a raw and uncontested energy reflecting the Ragga Twins sound. Which blends perfectly with The Dandadda's mesmerising blend of reggae-tinted dance music. With a recent music video to highlight the fun but aggressive nature of the song, it is obvious that this is going to be one for packed out dance floors. Combined with The Dandadda's energetic reputation, their sound is grabbing the attention of critics and tastemakers alike, from famed radio tastemaker Eddy Temple-Morris to video premieres with Fame Magazine & Soho Radio. Described by Noisey as "Sick" and "The ultimate festival act" by radio personality Eddy Temple Morris. The Dandadda are slowing rising through the ranks, making themselves easily ones to watch in the scene right now. The monthly session will feature three heavy weight sound systems, playing everything from roots reggae to special dub plates. The Imperial Sound Army, plays alongside Dan I, Reality Souljahs & Full Crew. Whereas the mighty Messenger Sound System is sure to blast out its righteous reggae sound with Steve Gad Selector, Afrikan Simba and Messenger Family join the mix to bring us quality roots reggae music. The one and only Aba-Shanti-I will close off the night with his weighty bass sound and rootsy dub that will keep you enjoying the Jah vibes all night long. EVENT PREVIEW: THE UNIVERSITY OF DUB BRINGS US ALL THE GOOD VIBES ARTIST OF THE MONTH: MACKA B Macka B (aka the lyrical chef) serves up a 16 course release on Greensleeves Record with Health is Wealth featuring the iconic Maxi Priest. Opening with 'Health is Wealth' an upbeat track that sets the tone for the rest of the LP. "Health is wealth, ital is vital!", Macka is here to enlighten us on the ways we can improve our physical & mental wellbeing. Despite his strict vegan diet, Macka knows it's not just what you eat that can cause deadly results to your body. In the rhythmic roots single 'Gangster' the reggae artist rejects the gang lifestyle confessing that he is "only fighting for liberation". Which is clear to see in the track 'Wha Me Eat', a dancehall- style viral track that cautions us to pick our food carefully, Macka is here to free our minds. This is further emphasised in the tracks, 'Cucumbas' & 'Natural Herb'. However, Macka isn't done yet, dropping a banger with Maxi Priest on 'Jah Jah Children'. Macka follows up with 'Legendary Icons' a celebratory song of the rastamen that made reggae what it is today. Macka B's greener approach to music makes for an insightful LP that just might convince you to go vegan as you vibe to its conscious message & anthemic tunes. 50 ISSUE 103 / 2017 REGGAE PLAYLIST The Times We Shared Lucky Dube Life Without Regret King Mas Love You Still Tommy Lee Sparta Pure Badness Gappy Ranks Here's the reggae on our playlist this month:
