TRAVEL WEEKLY ASIA O F F I C I A L D A I L I E S www.travelweekly-asia.com 17 26 October 2017 China and Middle East markets are the next to watch. The Lombok resort market senses growth in the Chinese market and since early 2016, resorts in Lombok have been approached by Chinese travel agencies, and some resorts have started welcoming Chinese tour groups. In other resort destinations across the region such as Bali and Phuket, China has progressed from emerging to the key source market. For Lombok, before China can become a key feeder market, there must be a greater awareness of Lombok plus the development of attractions (food, shopping, watersports etc) as well as air accessibility are required. The latter being the easiest to accomplish with LCCs and charter flights. The Middle East is another market to watch, small but lucrative, as Lombok continues its drive to be a Halal destination. ITDC's Mandalika Grand Mosque recently opened to crown the Halal friendly destination. In addition, Mandalika is top three in the ten "New Bali's" as identified & heavily publicised by the Central Government. Source: NTB Tourism Surveys. 2015 Lombok Arrivals Nationality Mix
