Rodney P has been in the game since before many who will be reading this were born. Always busy on the circuit, the man whose been a 'Gunner since '79' has had a career spanning 30 or so great years. Believe it or not, London Posse, a crew that launched Rodney P but also includ- ed emcee Bionic, beatboxer Sipho (RIP) and DJ Billy Biznizz are credited with being the first UK rap crew to popularise rapping in a British accent. For us now, this seems almost extraor- dinary verging on ridiculous, with so many dope British emcees proud of their roots. But there was a time where the only examples to emulate were from the ol' U.S. of A. However, thanks to crews such as London Posse and guys like Mr. Rodney P, we have had our own very British inspirations to draw from. Following his London Posse days, Rod- ney P went on to form a longstanding friendship with celebrated UK producer, DJ Skitz, collaborating on a plethora of projects. Throughout the late '90s and early 2000s Rodney released track after track, all of which are now regarded as golden age British tracks. Including tunes like 'Dedication' produced by Skitz for the Countryman LP. Recently, he has been involved on the production of several documentaries, including his own documentary Under The Influence and The Hip Hop World News for the BBC. His latest documentary The Last Pirates, out now, details the story of Brit- ain's Pirate radio DJs and culture. Riddim Killa Rodney P reminds us once again why he is the Godfather of UK hip hop. PLAYLIST Take Me Apart Kelela Aromanticism Moses Sumney Nightride Tinashe The Moon & You Rejjie Snow The hip hop & rnb in our playlist this month Time Being, originally released in 2003, was the first full-length CYNE LP. The Project Mooncircle reissue marks the first time that this long out-of-print album has been released on vinyl. Roadman Shaq, who went viral in August, thanks to his parody freestyle on Charlie Sloth's Fire in the Booth has released his brand new video for 'Man's Not Hot'. GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: CYNE The video sees Big Shaq a.k.a. Roadman Shaq a.k.a. UK comedian Michael Dapaah wake up in Miami and spit his now infamous lyrics in various worldwide locations including Toronto and London. Since its debut the humorous rap video has already garnered more than 1 million views. Those are impressive numbers especially seeing as Dapaah was a relatively unknown comedian in the UK before the hit track. Hip hop big hitters such as DJ Khaled, Jim Jones, Waka Flocka Flame and Lil Yachty also feature in the video. Considering the heat this music video has got already we can't wait to see what else Big Shaq has up his sleeve next. This deluxe edition includes a remaster of the original Time Being album, which includes instrumentals and two previously unreleased bonus tracks 'Plain English' and 'The Word'. The exclusive remastered deluxe set is out worldwide on limited green triple vinyl and digital. Repping their material with respected peers, CYNE has worked closely with Diplo & Friends, XLR8R, DJ Booth and This Is My Jam. The group has continued to release music for more than 15 years, including projects for domestic and international labels such as Project Mooncircle, Botanica Del Jibaro and City Centre Offices. Although the group's lineup has changed for recent projects, all four members continue to work together, creating a reputation as artists that stay true to the gritty cut and paste aesthetic of classic hip hop.
