54 ISSUE 104 / 2017 REGGAE TRACK OF THE MONTH: LANDON MCNAMARA The legendary Wailer band embark on another UK tour in March 2018. Landon McNamara's 'Loss For Words' pays tribute to all the lives lost through mass shootings in America. Written after the Las Vegas massacre, McNamara's timeless track still rings true in light of the recent shooting at a Texas Baptist Church that saw 26 people killed on November 5th. The song's rhythmic beat lulls you in as McNamara reminds us "to put down the guns" and to stay focused on love. A 'Loss For Words' honors the families and victims of these tragic shootings and spurs the listener to not just be a bystander but to "live as one and join hands", to inspire the change that will eventually make it possible for everyone to see this become a reality. Since the release of the song McNamara has promised fans that proceeds from the single will go to the families that lost loved ones in the Las Vegas shooting. Famous for their high energy live shows and timeless music that promotes equality, peace, love and good vibes, The Wailers are back with 14 dates across some of the UK's major cities. Bassist & founder Aston 'Familyman' Barrett, guitarist Junior Marvin and Donald Kinsey will kick things off in Newcastle on March 2nd and finish off in London on March 17th. So get ready to jam to The Wailers as they play the iconic Legend album live on stage, it is going to be a unmissable night! NEWS: CALLING ALL BOB MARLEY FANS! THE WAILERS 'LEGEND TOUR' COMES TO THE UK IN 2018 ALBUM OF THE MONTH: JESSE ROYAL Reggae has seen a recent influx of talent, from Protoje, Samory I, Chronixx and Kabaka Pyramid. Now there's a new name in town, Jesse Royal's recent debut album Lily of da Valley marks him out as one to watch. The young reggae star has no qualms drawing us in from the get go with album opener '400 Years', a stand out roots anthem that shows off Royal's strong but heartfelt vocals. He sings, "All the people really want is peace and equality. Talking 'bout reparation, for the Black Nation. Africa awaits... " Not one to disappoint, Royal follows up with another banger featuring Jo Mersa Marley. 'Generation' uses Jo's compelling voice to urge listeners to stand up for what is right. Other uplifting songs such as 'Life's Sweet', 'Real Love', 'Full Moon' and 'Roll Me Something Good' are carried by a steady drum and bass and Jesse's infectious chanting style. The finale 'Jah Will See Us Through' thunders with various vocal styles and instrumentation. But the song stays unmoved in its passionate message, " Tell my nieces/ and my nephews/ that Jah will see us through." Jesse's hope, faith and pain shines so easily throughout this LP and for a first feature length release, Jesse Royal has stayed true to his name.
