"We have some customers who park their RV in one spot for most of the year," says Leigh Tiffin, president of Vanleigh RV, a division of Tiffin Motorhomes. "So, they asked, 'Why does it need a motor? Why don't I just get a fifth wheel?'" Vanleigh's latest offering is the Beacon 39FBB. This floorplan features a massive master bedroom and master bathroom, plus a second half-bath. "We took a lot of our high-end features from our motorhomes and applied them to our towable models," Tiffin says. "Our customers are willing to spend a little more for some nice luxuries, and we also upgraded some features. "I think most RVers like the idea of buying from a fam- ily-owned company. We saw an opportunity in fifth wheels, and we got in." There are four slides in this model. The most forward space in the fifth wheel is the master bathroom. The long slide on the passenger side spans the width of both the master bathroom and bedroom. In the bathroom, this slide contains a double vanity and a small linen closet. Other bathroom features include a 41-inch by 30-inch shower, a large closet and an optional hookup for a washer and dryer. In the master bedroom, the slide features a chest of drawers, a vanity and a hookup for a 30-inch television. The second slide, on the driver's side, also is in the master bedroom, holding head-half of the queen bed – allowing for plenty of space to walk around. The master bedroom and bathroom are separated by a sliding door, as is the divide between the bedroom and the rest of the fifth wheel. The third and fourth slides are found in the primary living space. The third slide, on the driver's side, adds mostly to the galley space. The slide holds a residential-size refrigerator, a range and oven with an over- head microwave, a fireplace and an entertainment center large enough to hold a 50-inch screen. A half-bath with a small vanity and pantry is unique to this floorplan. The fourth slide is on the passenger side, and it has a 60-inch theater sofa and a dinette with four chairs. An 80-inch hide-a-bed sofa is in the rear of the trailer. "The Beacon includes Thomas Payne furniture," says Jeff Farris, director of operations with Vanleigh RV. "It has an updated Spyder control system with a color screen, and it has 8K axles with electric brakes." "We're going to have some additional flooring options in future models." The Beacon 39FBB is 38-feet, 11-inches long and 12-feet, 11-inches tall. The unloaded vehicle weight is 14,500 pounds and the GVWR is 18,000 pounds. The hitch weight is 3,100 pounds. The MSRP for the Vanleigh Beacon 39FBB is $120,355. What impressed RV PRO: The four slides give this floor- plan an incredible open feel, with the bedroom and master bath feeling especially spacious. Plus, the many residential touches located throughout the coach give it a particularly welcoming feel.
