rv-pro.com January 2018 • RV PRO • 45 there's only so much you can do until you're out of the price point," Staley says. "We tried to focus on what we could do with the exterior to set ourselves apart from the competition but appeal to a wider range of buyers. We wanted to focus on making it more streamlined looking like it was in motion, but make it look more linear in a way that gives it a fresher look than all the swirls and swoops." In addition to the different exterior, the Transcend, which Staley likes to call an "introductory model," is full of amenities that are only offered as extra upgrades in most trailers in the price point. It features all hardwood cabinet doors, seamless Thermo- form countertops, deep-seated stainless-steel sinks, power jacks and awnings. Staley says the exterior metal is 25 percent thicker than stan- dard stick-and-tins. The initial floorplan is a bunkhouse model that is 32 feet long and has a dry weight of about 6,400 pounds. Perhaps the most out-of-ordinary feature is the 5 Plus 1 storage center to the right as one enters the coach – kind of a Swiss Army knife of storage compartments. The area features large space and coat hooks that can be used for a pantry, wardrobe, shoe storage, cubby space, coat space and a place to store a satellite receiver. Transcend carries 82-inch ceiling heights, 6-foot slide- outs, an all-in-one utility center and 60-by-80 queen beds all at an MSRP in the mid- to upper-$20,000 range. Staley says dealers can expect additional interesting floorplans to arrive in the coming months. What impressed RV PRO: Transcend is a solid travel trailer with plenty of features and without the squeaks and rattles that typically come with a vehicle whose main purpose is to impress the buyer enough to get them to upgrade to a higher-end model in a few years. With Grand Design's reputation for quality on the line, and Staley's insistence on his staff calling it an "intro- ductory-level" trailer, it is clear that Transcend is being built to the company's high standards and with enough amenities to keep camping families comfortable for as long as they choose.
