GUESTLIST 2017 / ISSUE 105 13 A number of them are young girls who are missing school because they are ashamed. Free Periods is an organisation that believes that girls on free school meals should have access to free period products. Their mission is to lobby the government to make a pledge to end period poverty! Having a period is NOT a choice and sanitary products are NOT a luxury, access to sanitary products IS a human right. Children as young as 11 suffer the shame of using socks of taping tissue to underwear. This is not only unacceptable but it can seriously jeopardis their health. If you feel strongly about this cause, sign the Free Periods' petition to convince the government to make a change. Let's start a the conversation! LET'S TALK ABOUT THIS: END PERIOD POVERTY! According to Plan International UK, 1 in 10 girls can't afford to buy sanitary products. Firstly, things a vegan gotta have in the cupboard. Kidney beans and chopped tomatoes are a must. They are used in a lot of hearty vegan recipes. Also pasta, rice and noodles. Amazing and cheap. Oats are an absolute saviour for a cheap vegan diet. A large bag of oats can cost a pound or less. Lastly, bananas. As much as we try and deny the stereotype, bananas are kind of a staple vegan food. But luckily for us, they're healthy and versatile. They can top vegan pancakes, yoghurt or they can go in your smoothies. VEGAN ON A BUDGET: THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO BUY The first step is accepting where you are at Noticing a pattern or habit you want to break is massive and you should feel good that you've decided to address it. It's not a fight, it's an improvement, a learning experience. Recognise the pattern Think about what triggers your habit, the situations you see it come out and why you react the way you do. It's important for you to understand why and recognise when you are doing it so that you are able to overcome it in the future. Solution time Now is time to work out the best possible way for you to react instead. If you like, ask someone you trust for help with this. Practice makes perfect Then all you have to do is practice. Remember, you won't get this right every time; breaking bad habits is hard work but don't beat yourself up about it. Celebrate your successes, keep it up and before long, you'll start to see the positive change you were looking for. TRAPPED IN A NEGATIVE PATTERN? HERE'S 4 TIPS TO GET YOU UNSTUCK Breaking negative patterns is tough for anyone. Even if you feel like you have had a certain habit for a lifetime, you can always change. DO BETTER If you can do better do better. And 99% of the time... (Unless you are tapping into the part of the brain most people don't use, and the power of the universe most people do not acknowledge) you can do better. Don't drag your feet through life like a spoilt child, being taken around a foreign city by his parents moaning, because this is the time of your life, this is your life. This is a moment you could remember forever and all you need to do is say those words, make that call, do that thing. Stop doing the things you know you shouldn't be doing, do what you know you need to do. Stop wasting fucking time. Up your game CAT RACE There is a myth flying around that veganism is this expensive, elitist diet, which is simply not the case. Here is a helpful guide to aid those who need a little help.
