TRACK OF THE MONTH: SUB ZERO & DJ LIMITED - RUN The Irish producer will release the five track EP in January 2018. Sometimes there's a track that hits you, everything about it just works. The energy, basslines and even just the structure. 'Run' is one of those tracks for us. Hitting the ground running, it slams down a rigid drum loop, sick vocal work with a bassline wonkier than most jaws at any rave. It's the master work of Sub Zero & DJ Limited, two well acclaimed producers in their own right. They came together for a joint EP on Playaz, The Vibrations. It's an eight tracked piece, including two dub versions of records. Though most of the EP is the upfront jump up sound we have come to expect from these two juggernauts, 'Run' is something extra special. Adding elements of a rolling jungle tune, with the brain turning bass wobble, whilst nodding to d&b's MC culture. 10/10. This is Detboi's third record for the drum and bass label since his Secrets EP in July 2017. Ice Cold will include several influences, from jungle, bass, techno and drum & bass. Metalheadz are describing this EP as Detboi's "most distinguished work yet." Firmly rooted in the original jungle drum & bass style with a clear nod to the future, Kumarachi has long been developing his sound and has become a serious player in today's jungle drum & bass scene. Over the last 12 months Kumarachi has been smashing out the tunes on labels including Audio Addict, Hocus Pocus & Deep In The Jungle. Each release is soaked in his gritty jungle style that's laden with beefy basslines. Mid December saw him release arguably one of his biggest releases yet as he steps up for Critical Music's latest Binary EP. Though not his usual style, Kumarachi demonstrates great diversity within his own sound. Providing Critical with his classic jungle drum & bass sound with a much darker edge and lust for experimentation. This is Kumarachi signing out of 2017 in the best way, and leaving room for even bigger things in 2018.
