GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: JAM THIEVES 42 ISSUE 105 / 2017 Shogun Audio are heading to Phonox on December 29th, for an end of year bash. Minimal funk masters, signed to Hype's esteemed Playaz - these Brazilian brothers have been making waves in the scene since first coming together back in 2007. Their unique sound combines dangerously high levels of funk with a menacing dark edge. Bold basslines bolt over minimal drums, though despite sounding raw AF the brothers create something impossible not to keep still to. Earlier this year they dropped the massive 12 tracked Hackers EP and they've just followed it up with the After Blast EP. Both EPs rinse out the subs and take all the classic elements of jump up, but to call these jump up tracks wouldn't get them enough credit. The basslines alone can fill an empty room, and in the right hands would turn any rave on top of its head. After a sick year, Jam Thieves are definitely a drum & bass name to watch out for, if you haven't already. The label has had a big year, signing new artists including Pola & Bryson, Mitekiss & Ed:it, dropping the second instalment of the critically acclaimed Point of Origin album series and a number of big shows including Printworks, London. Just before the year is out, the Shogun team are heading to Phonox, South London for a final party in 2017. The event also marks out the beginning of a new residency for the label, which is great news for Shogun's dedicated followers in the Capital. Spinning traxs on the night are Shogun signees Technimatic, Pola & Bryson, Ed:it & GLXY. Joining them is the mighty Deadline who recently laid down a sick Shogun history mixtape ALBUM OF THE MONTH: T.R.A.C. - LIFE IN MOTION Hailing from NYC, T.R.A.C. has grown up in the melting pot of cultures and sounds that exist within Brooklyn. He has a strong footing in the cities exploding hip hop scene, though has a deep rooted passion for the genre's distant UK cousin, drum & bass. His long-time love for broken beats has meant this MC has not only made serious moves in hip hop, but has also become a regular name on drum & bass bills in the US, Canada and Europe. Earlier this month, T.R.A.C. laid down his latest work Life In Motion. Released on the treasured V Recordings, across 15 tracks T.R.A.C. takes you on a journey through his musical loves. From upfront hip hop cuts 'Pursuit' & 'The Avenue' to slick drum & bass rollers 'Invisible Sounds' & 'Late Night Connection', T.R.A.C showcases his sick vocal talents in an album that listens so well individually as well as collectively. Featured artists on the album include Calibre, Command Strange, L Side and loads more, it's a massive project that really lets T.R.A.C show us what he's made of. This is one album not to be missed!
