44 ISSUE 105 / 2017 INDIE Writing music is how 22-year old vocalist AVEC keeps the wolf from her door - often reflecting on personal life experiences and weaving her life's narrative, as can be heard on her latest track 'Waiting For'. The big NYE indie disco is back with a bang, take a step back in time to the glory days of the 00's indie vibes, and let us bring a night of 2007 nostalgia and a throwback to 2008 with attitude. AVEC's sound is comparable to the magical atmosphere just before the sun sets behind the mountains. It is melancholic but hopeful that the sun will rise again tomorrow. On 'Waiting For', AVEC invites listeners to crawl close to her words, allowing them to slowly come into focus. She crafts a sturdy melody with a pleasantly hazy foreground while soaking her music in her own surroundings and experiences. AVEC explains the song,"I wrote the song 'Waiting For' during a car ride with my best friend. The clouds were impressive that day and we were driving right into the sunset - it was such a pretty atmosphere. It reminded me that our entire human journey through life is somehow about waiting. It's a constant condition." The Garage is one of London's biggest alternative venues and this year the club brings us special guests, including DJ sets from Parka Monkeys aka Andy from The Enemy and Adam from Babyshambles. Huge indie tunes, cheap drinks, confetti cannons, balloon drops and more will make this a night to remember. So why not arrive into 2018 in style as this event is one to not be missed, so grab tickets ASAP! GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: AVEC EVENT PREVIEW: IT IS A INDIE THROWBACK EVENT THIS CHRISTMAS! ARTIST OF THE MONTH: LEYYA Austrian electro-pop duo LEYYA share enthusiastic new single 'Drumsolo' and an- nounce upcoming album Sauna via Las Vegas Records. 'Drumsolo' follows the success of their previous singles 'Zoo' and 'Oh Wow' which received vast support from tastemakers such as Wonderland Magazine, BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart. Sophie Lindinger and Marco Kleebauer have been on a high streak of victory - which has seemingly jolted to life on its own accord. Their debut album Spanish Disco was the catalyst - creating a cause and effect whirlwind of huge festival performances and radio play, as well as television and film appearances. The duo's latest track 'Drumsolo' rolls in with a steady beat set amid spirited atmospheres as Sophie Lindinger's delicate, yet fiery vocal work fills the air in excitement. Layered synth pads, saxophones and complex bass patterns correspond with drummer Marco Kleebauer's concise, yet playful approach to percussion; and animated bass lines and vibrant synthesizers paint a perfect portrait of LEYYA's striking ascent, worthy of utmost attention.
