54 ISSUE 105 / 2017 REGGAE TRACK OF THE MONTH: KELISSA & RAS MUHAMAD This is Marley's sixth nomination and second MOBO win since 2005. Indonesia's reggae ambassador Ras Muhamad teams up with renowned Jamaican songstress Kelissa to create sweet vibrations in their latest track 'Satu Dunia/ One World'. In a world that focuses more on differences than what connects us, Kelissa and Ras keep us grounded to what really matters in 'Satu Dunia/ One World '. Kelissa half chants, half croons the heart of the single in the first few verses, "we may not speak the same tongue, but we got love". Accompanied by Ras's gentle vocals but hard hitting lyricism in the foreground, he sings "we are one" repeatedly. However, it's the versatile arrangement of the track that makes it stand out from the get go. From the heavenly grooves and traditional deep reggae sound at the beginning of the song to Arabic melodic tones near the end of the track. As the duo go back and forth in various languages, singing the same thing, "we are one world" it is clear they are reminding us that we are one big universal family, who shouldn't "let petty prejudices" divide us any longer. The 'Medication' singer denied fellow nominees Alkaline, Aidonia, Chronixx and Popcaan a win. It seems the reggae star is still on a roll, as he has since been nominated for the 'Best Reggae Album' category in the upcoming 60th annual Grammy Awards for his latest album Stony Hill; alongside Jamaican reggae artist Chronixx, for his 2017 LP Chronology. NEWS: DAMIAN MARLEY WINS 'BEST REGGAE ACT' AT THIS YEAR'S MOBO AWARDS ALBUM OF THE MONTH: CHEZIDEK Back with his latest album Irie Day, featuring the iconic reggae artist Capleton. Chezidek takes no prisoners with this fyah record! From the get go it is island vibes with 'Living in the Sunshine', Chezidek takes us to Jamaica with lush bass lines and uplifting drumming. Next up is the single 'Jah Jah Bless' backed by the grittiness of Capleton's vocals you are easily lulled into the song's deep roots rhythm, as you sway back and forth to its addictive beat. However it is tracks like 'No Blame', 'Irie Day' and 'Rainbow' that Chezidek's voice really shines. Accompanied by minimal guitar play and positive vibes, you can't help but kick back and want to chill to Chezidek's gorgeous riddims. Finishing off with 'Love Says It All', Chezidek takes us back to what really matters, love and its incredible power to bring us all together. Regardless of race, gender or borders, Irie Day is here to give us hope.
