In the midst of leading the St. Cloud State Huskies to a No. 1 ranking at the holiday break, the Austin native put the finishing touches on his World Junior roster and took the squad out to Buffalo. Motzko, in his second straight year at the helm, led the U.S. to bronze with a 9-3 victory against the Czech Repulic. The win marked the first time in history that Team USA medaled in three-straight World Junior Championships. The U.S. earned gold in 2017 and bronze in 2016. "It's not the medal we hoped for, but we're a proud group to have helped the United States win a third-straight medal at the World Juniors for the first time in U.S. history," Motzko told USA Hockey. ? with Joey Anderson
