The emcees for the evening were SCORE Live Announcer Rat Sult and SCORE advisor Juan Tintos Funcke, who introduced many of the people and teams that helped make the 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship series a success. SCORE CEO and president Roger Norman, started the evening thanking everyone who helped make this season a success. “We want to sincerely acknowledge the support, assistance and sacrifices made by family members, friends and sponsors,” said Norman. “Without their support, the accomplishments of our racers in the series would not have been possible.” Among the highlights of the evening were the presentation of awards for various overall and class championship winners, SCORE Off-Roadsman Awards, and those racers who received the SCORE Milestone Award. “Becoming a SCORE overall or class point champion, winning a coveted SCORE Off-Roadsman Award, or a SCORE Milestone Award is an achievement of the highest degree in our beloved sport,” said Norman. “The year of 2017 was another landmark year in the history of SCORE International. We witnessed a total of nearly 8,000 different drivers, co-drivers, riders, and co-riders participating from the United States and 30 countries in our four spectacular races in SCORE World Desert Championship. This year was highlighted by our absolutely amazing celebration of the 50 years of the iconic SCORE Baja 1000. For my wife Elise and I, this was our fifth year as the caretakers of this amazing international treasure we all know as SCORE International. We are even more committed to work with our racers to expand the reach of SCORE even further than it has achieved already.” Among the highlights of the evening were big winners that included Carlos Apdaly Lopez, who won the SCORE Overall, SCORE Overall Truck and SCORE Trophy Truck Championship driving the RPM Off-Road Racing Chevy Rally Truck. This was the third year that Apdaly Lopez has won the Overall Truck title and the second time he’s won the SCORE Overall point championship. Broc Dickerson at age 16, was another highlight of the event. Dickerson won the SCORE Overall Buggy and Class 10 championship, as well as being voted as 2017 Rookie of the Year. Also taking top honors that evening was Francisco Arredondo, who won the SCORE Overall motorcycle and Pro Moto Unlimited championship, and Marc Burnett, who won the SCORE Overall UTV and Pro UTV FI championship. While the SCORE community celebrated a spectacular evening, plans are already underway for an exciting 2018 season that the racers and fans can’t wait to begin.
