career, the Rochester, N.Y., native
figured his competitive career was

kick at the Olympic can when he
leads the U.S. Men's Olympic Team
in PyeongChang, South Korea.
"I think everyone can relate to
the Olympics and the magnitude of
the Olympics," Gionta said after the
announcement during the second
intermission of the NHL Winter
Classic on Jan. 1.
"The world stops to watch the
Olympic Games. And to be able to
be at that level representing your
country, it's a dream come true."
That dream became a reality for
the 25 players announced to the
men's team, including collegians
Jordan Greenway, Ryan Donato and
Troy Terry.
They were joined on the frosty
field by members of the two-time
silver-medal-winning U.S. Women's
O l y m p i c T e a m , a n d t h e U. S .
Paralympic Sled Team that is gun-
ning for its third straight gold medal.
"Like our former coach, Coach
Sauer, used to say, it's really hard
to get on top, and it's even harder
to stay. It's going to take dedication
from every one of our team mem-
bers," said captain Josh Pauls, who
is playing in his third Paralympics.
"But we're definitely up to the
challenge, especially living with
each other and training together. It's
going to take a full team mentality,
and I think we have that going in."
