44 THE WOLVERINE MARCH 2018 BY ANDREW VAILLIENCOURT The state of Texas is well known for its strong high school football. Many even suggest it has the best in the country. Michigan is bringing in two Texas state champions in its recruiting class — twin brothers Gemon and German Green. DeSoto (Texas) High four-star cor- nerback Gemon Green, who is the older brother by six minutes, is one of seven Rivals.com four stars in this year's recruiting class. He was a first- year starter at cornerback during his high school's perfect 16-0 state cham- pionship season in 2016. That experience set him up to suc- ceed at Michigan, DeSoto safeties coach and recruiting coordinator Ja- son Garrett explained, because he knows how to play with a target on his back and how to handle the high expectations that will be placed on him in Ann Arbor. "He's a very, very competitive guy," Garrett said. "That's what you need playing the corner position on an island. He loves playing on an island. "He's very long, very rangy. His length gets him into a lot of plays." Gemon is 6-2 and 175 — a few pounds lighter than his brother, who will likely play safety. His aggressive play and strength in press coverage will fit in well with U-M defensive coordinator Don Brown's scheme, which has its cornerbacks playing Gemon Green Brings Winning Pedigree to U-M Gemon is the older of the Green twins, is expected to play cornerback at Michigan and ended high school as the higher-ranked recruit. RECRUITMENT • Committed to Michigan on April 20, 2017. • He wanted to play with his twin brother, German, in college, and they both selected Michigan over Colo- rado and Oklahoma State. He looks very solid on film in coverage, using his size and length to play physically at the line of scrimmage. He also shows the ability to play the ball well in the air on several occasions and appears to be a fan of contact as well. The Green twins will not necessar- ily be needed in 2018, but you never know how they might develop and who could push for time as a depth provider. Both could play special teams and secure time early. 44 THE WOLVERINE MARCH 2018
