PromPeru – Peru’s official Tourism Board, also shared with Events Asia, on how they have already received participation for next year’s ITB Asia, from the tourism players in Peru. Together with Tucano Peru, Limabased leader of inbound travel were co-exhibitors at the annual travel trade show. The reason behind this is attributed to the tourist arrival figure growth of some 16 per cent, year-onyear, surpassing the global average. “We want to show Asia that Peru has more to offer, not just the well-known Machu Pichu,” said Rocio Florian Ventura, account manager for Asian markets at PromPeru. Countries including Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam, have reported more than 20% increase. In 2012 so far, first half results has registered 16% Asian visitors to the country. “Peru is a destination which offers inexhaustible number of breathtaking nature, world class cuisine, archaeological remains from highly developed ancient civilizations, and a living culture, whose people welcome tourists with open arms,” added Ventura. The focus for Peru this year includes promoting high-end luxury travel, Peruvian gastronomy as well as its more traditional historical, cultural, and nature attractions. Hotel chains from Asia were also present to get their brands across. Dorsett Hospitality International, a name that was started in Hong Kong is one that promoted the different hotel brands under its wing, at ITB Asia. This is crucial for the brand, which was formerly known as the Kosmopolito Hotels International. Its rebranding process has consolidated the group’s hotel portfolio and divided it into three brands that cover different market segments - boutique range d.Collection, a series of upscale, charismatic hotels in prime locations carefully chosen for their proximity to the pulse of each city; Dorsett Hotels & Resorts, comprising the upscale Dorsett Grand hotels - offering tasteful and rich hospitality experience - and midscale Dorsett Hotels - contemporary urban hotels in central locations; and the value-led Silka Hotels famed for convenience, speedy service and attractive room rates. Winnie Chiu, President and Executive Director said, “With the group rebranded as Dorsett Hospitality International, we will continue to focus on offering an Asian experience and culture to discerning travellers looking for quality accommodation at excellent value, complete with the essentials of a great hotel experience.” Responsible Tourism ITB Asia also champions responsible tourism, using the conference as a platform for the Responsible Tourism Forum and Networking at ITB Asia 2012 which was held on last day of the show. The event saw different organizations share case studies and first-hand accounts of people who have made a difference in sustainable tourism. A platform for sharing experiences, strengthening relationships and potential business opportunities between socially responsible travel trade professionals, the forum was aimed at promoting and raising awareness for responsible tourism across the Asian travel and tourism industry, and is open to all ITB Asia delegates and attendees. Throughout the event, initiatives on responsible tourism were pushed through Responsible Tourism clinics that addressed issues such as environmentally-friendly accommodation and the practical applications of social media.
