Hotplates Recordings unleashes its first vinyl, a two-track dubstep excursion from German beatmaker OTZ. Label manager of the noted Subaltern Records, OTZ has been crafting his sound since 2011 – combining detailed instrumentation with a dub-heavy backbone. Side A, 'Tabloid', which has been played on the NTS Roll Thru show, features a wonky, off-kilter melody and rumbling bass that makes for a guaranteed rig- shaker. Side B, meanwhile, sees OTZ team up with fellow German heavyweights Causa and Conzi on the sub- filled 'Coin Dub' – a rare gem that has been sought after by fans for a number of years. See in the Easter celebrations with the dub-filled sounds of jungle, breakbeat and dnb on the 31st of March, brought to you by none other than the legends of these genres. Jungle veteran General Levy leads the line-up for this latest instalment of tribal grooves from the legendary bass label Hot Cakes. Returning to their South London savannah of Brixton Jamm, this one looks set to showcase the best in the game right now. The main room plays host to label boss and resident DJ Jessi G along with seminal producers like Deekline, Serial Killaz, Acee and special guest DJ Guv, the king of jump-up, will be spinning up a never- heard-before set of jungle versus jump up exclusively for the night. Room 2 will be hosted by none other than the up and coming underground gang Whitepark Music. ALBUM OF THE MONTH: BLOCKS & ESCHER The highly-anticipated debut album from Blocks & Escher is nearly approaching the full release date this March. The album consists of 11 tracks that will take us on an atmospheric journey. Something Blue will be released through Metalheadz on March 30th, with a three track sampler arriving a little earlier on March 16th. Speaking on the upcoming LP, Metalheadz promises that this will be a record that "ventures into various corners of drum and bass and jungle."
