TRACK OF THE MONTH: DANNY BYRD J Majik has been a drum and bass DJ/producer since the early 90s. 'Devil's Drop' by Danny Byrd was recently released earlier this year and out of the tracks we have heard so far, this is a current favourite of ours. The sinister name of the track drew us in immediately and hands down would be a tune to skank out to in a rave. Combined with deep subs and a raw old school 90's sound this is a definite Byrd banger. The trippy visuals in the music video also make this a track not to pass on if you are a die-hard drum and bass fan. The DJ began his successful career at a young age. A teenage boy growing up in Northwood, London surrounded by an influential sound that became a big part of his everyday life. His early releases were on Planet earth and Suburban Base Recordings before his first release on the notorious Metalheadz with the legendary release 'Your Sound' back in 1995! J Majik has collabed with several well-known producers, from Goldie, Adam F, Hype & Wickaman. The DJ also has his own record label known as Infrared Records. Several producers have had releases on the label many years ago from The Prototypes, Wickaman, Sudden Def, Hoodlum & Mavrik. Sadly Infrared Records stopped releasing music back in 2012. However, here's the good news we've been waiting for. This year us drum & bass fanatics will see the return of Infrared Records. The underground sound is coming back filled with the whole 90s nostalgic era, which us d&b fans crave for. NEWS: J MAJIK RETURNS WITH INFRARED RECORDS! ARTIST OF THE MONTH: TURNO Getting into music at age 14 after being forced into taking music production… let's call it fate, Turno was always destined for great things. The first drum and bass vinyl records Turno owned was 'Blandwagon Poos' by John B and 'Torture Chamber' by Friction. These two records alone were suggestively the co- creators to the sound of the great Turno. It's clear to see how energetic, determined and hungry this guy is, his commitment makes us question our life choices and priorities. If you haven't already heard 'Alliance' by A.M.C & Turno then what are you doing with your life! Okay, we take it back but type that into YouTube now and all you drum and bass heads won't be disappointed. Another track to mention is Turno's Subfocus guest mix, which he of course smashed, chewed and completely spat out. Nevertheless, let this be words of encouragement - Turno knew he wouldn't make it big in the scene without all the hard work and he never doubted that he'd make it. 40 ISSUE 108 / 2018 DRUM & BASS PLAYLIST The drum and bass on our playlist this month Sick Music 2018 Various Mosaik Camo & Krooked Gangsta Benny Page All The Shimmering Things Keeno
