JUNE/JULY 2018 THE WOLVERINE 49   2018 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE No. 48 junior nationally is report- edly averaging 15.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this spring pay- ing with Drive Nation, a Dallas- based AAU program. He averaged 25 points and 16 rebounds per game at Richardson last year. Baylor, Purdue, Oklahoma and others have had in-home visits, and Beilein caught a practice in mid-April and has been keeping tabs on him. "I get a lot of comparisons to [re- cently departed Michigan center] Moe Wagner," Timme said. "They have a great program at Michigan." He said he's currently "wide open." Jaden McDaniels, 6-8, 195, Fed- eral Way (Wash.) High: Texas, Okla- homa, Gonzaga and Oregon were the schools recruiting McDaniels the hardest entering May, and now Mich- igan has joined the list. His brother, Jalen, plays at San Diego State. "The style of play is important," he said of what he's looking for in a school. "I like to play fast, get up and down." McDaniels — the No. 32 overall prospect nationally according to Rivals.com — was averaging 17.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game through eight EYBL contests with Seattle Rotary AAU. Cole Anthony, 6-2, 180, New York Archbishop Malloy: The elite point guard, who is ranked as a five-star prospect and the No. 4 overall player nationally by Rivals.com, averaged 24.0 points and 3.6 assists per game on the EYBL circuit this spring, while shooting 42.9 percent from long range. Duke and Kansas are up there for former NBA player Greg Anthony's son, but he's just starting to think about visits and is wide open. Beilein visited him in mid-April. Harlond Beverly, 6-3, 170, South- field (Mich.) Christian: Beverly av- eraged 16.0 points, 6.0 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game to earn Class D Player of the Year hon- ors in the state of Michigan. He has held in home visits with Texas, Ohio State, Michigan State and Xavier, and has visited MSU, OSU, Michigan and several others this year. Through early May, the Wolverines had not offered the talented shooting guard, who will play out the summer before narrowing his list. ❏ Michigan is already watching sophomores, and there are several who are reciprocating the interest (or soon could be). Here are five to watch: ISAIAH JACKSON 6-9 • 195• Power Forward Detroit Old Redford Prep Rivals.com's No. 25 Sophomore Nationally Jackson has played up this spring for The Family AAU squad with mixed results. He averaged only 4.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest over four outing in the EYBL event at Indianapolis in late April, and will no doubt be targeted by the in-state schools. "I haven't really talked with either Michigan or Michigan State, since I'm still only a sophomore," he said. "My coach stays in contact with those two schools, though. "Michigan is such a great school and a great program. I've been to two or three of their games before — it was an awe- some atmosphere there. I really like the way Coach Beilein coaches, and I also like the way their defensive coach [Luke Yaklich] does things." Iowa and Ole Miss just offered him, while Florida State, Marquette, Mississippi State and Oakland University have also stepped up. DAYTEN HOLMAN 6-5 • 180• Shooting Guard Norman (Okla.) High Rivals.com Three-Star Prospect Holman has begun to pick up high-major offers and has already visited in-state Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Tulsa was the first to offer, and Houston and Michigan have recently come on to the scene. "Having Michigan interested means a lot. They have a lot of faith in me to recruit me throughout this whole process," he said. "They just want to see me play defense well, get better with my shot and rebound the ball." Michigan and Houston both offered to have him visit this summer, and he's considering it. NIMARI BURNETT 6-3 • 180 • Point Guard Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep Rivals.com No. 64 Sophomore Nationally The Chicago native recently made the move to the West Coast and has excelled. Yaklich used to coach him when they were both younger, so there's a bond there. "I've gotten more athletic and stronger, and that has helped me mentally throughout the game," Burnett said. "Gutting my teammates in good spots is the biggest thing for me." Arizona, Stanford, USC, Illinois and DePaul have joined Michigan in recruiting Burnett hard in the early going. ETHAN MORTON 6-5 • 180 • Point Guard Butler (Pa.) Senior Rivals.com No. 47 Sophomore Nationally Morton holds offers from Virginia, Pittsburgh, Purdue and others, while Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Iowa have shown serious interest. He's seen U-M and several of the Big Ten schools. "My passing is my best attribute, along with making guys better," he said. "But I can also slide off the ball and make shots." DEMETRIUS CALIP JR. 6-4 • 165 • Shooting Guard Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft Not Rated The first-team all-city selection is a top-100 player on some lists, and he is just getting started. He is the son of former Michigan standout guard Demetrius Calip Sr., who played at U-M in the late 1980s. "I've appreciated being recruited by Oregon State, Florida State, etc., but other programs that I like are Arizona, UCLA, and USC," he said. "I'm aiming to be a high major, and my dream is to play in the NBA. "If a program believes in me, be it my dad's alma mater of Michigan, I'm open to going anywhere that is a great fit." — Chris Balas Five 2020 Prospects To Watch
