HIP-HOP / RNB 39 7 www.guestlist.net Issue 46 / 2012 ARTIST OF THE MONTH: LIL WAYNES I AM NOT A HUMAN BEING II GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS : SHAWN CRYSTOPHER The American rapper and music producer has worked with the likes of MANN,XV, Mike, Posner, Big Sean, N.O.R.E., Owl City and Dom Kennedy. The controversial and successful rapper returns with a sequel to 2010s I am not a Human Being. The wait is finally over, it is that month of the year where Lil Waynes 10th solo album, I am Not a Human Being II, has been released as promised by the man himself. Wayne released the first installation of this album series, while serving his time at the Rikers Island in New York for a gun charge, and he admits that it forced him to rush recording. Wayne told MTV News early this summer that this album has been given more thought and he paid a lot of attention to details, unlike his first installation. The album features the likes of Big Sean, Gudda Gudda, Mack Maine, Army Boy, Meek Mill, Cory Gunz, T.I., Tyler the Creator, Young Jeezy & more. Weezy believes this album will have the same quality as his previous albums: Tha Carter IV , Tha Carter III. Hope you like it, coz its gonna get rowdy this Christmas. ALBUM OF THE MONTH NUMBERS Not a name widely known in these parts, this is surely a guy to sit up and take notice of. His raps contain social and political observations seen through the eyes and narrated by a highly intelligent, articulate and perceptive young black man from the ghetto. He was raised by a single mother and was in occasional contact with his father until his death in 2009. Shawn Crystopher is an Inglewood Calif. Native rapper who, it would seem, was destined for great things. From nursery he skipped straight into Year 2 and whilst still in primary school, this child prodigy perfected the use of five musical instruments, which led to him learning how to produce his own music. He then went on to graduate high school at 16 and was given a 4 1/2 year scholarship to the University of Southern California where he majored in Political Science. This background in political science is definitely a contributing factor for his rhymes, along with his apparent intellect. His debut mixtape I.W.G: I Wear Glasses in 2008 earned him rave reviews and critical acclaim along with sponsorship from urban-clothing giant LRG. Crystophers eclectic music style is what makes this young and conscious rapper so refreshing, collaborating with everyone from Mann to Mike Posner to N.O.R.E. The 2009 follow up to his debut, The Audition got 35,000 downloads in its first week of release. Not bad for an independent artist. HIs subsequent release You and Only, You in 2010 was widely critically acclaimed and featured in many glossy hip-hop mags, with hit single Catch Me if You Can premiering on BETs 106 & Park as the New Joint of the Day. VIBE magazine covered the album release party in TImes Square, NY. His latest creation Lovestory is a mesh of neo soul, old school hiphop flavours and new school beats flavoured with the kind of creative consciousness that has various artists lining up to collaborate with him. No wonder super producer Timberland snapped him up and added him to his ever growing stable of artists. Check his site, Honourrolestudent.com, TOUR SCHEDULE : WAKA FLOCKA FLAME MellowHype, two members of Odd Future return for their 3rd album together and they continue to pull no punches. You never really know what youre going to get when members of a group decide to try their hand at solo careers, but in this case, whats in store is bold, in your face and is part of a gang, universally known as Odd Future. MellowHype, consisting of Hodgy Beats and Left Brain, have concocted a sinister, blasphemous, hard hitting album they cleverly titled Numbers. MellowHypes lifestyle is creating the dopest experimental hiphop around California. Both members complement each other perfectly: Left Brain brings calm when composing instrumentals, and Hype transmitting mental emotions. As they say, Left Brain is Hodgys producer and Hodgy Beats is Left Brains artist. If spine chilling beats and consistently graphic lyrics are what youre looking for, there is an abundant supply of both on this album. Numbers features the talented Earl Sweatshirt, Mike G and Frank Ocean, all members of the Wolfgang pack. MellowHype have definitely delivered something expected but also something new their followers will enjoy. 2nd December @Melkweg, Amsterdam 6th December @Academy, Manchester 8th December @The Arches, Glasgow 3rd December @La Bataclan, Paris 7th December @HMV Institute, Birmingham 15th December @Proton Club, Stuttgart 4th December @Indig02, London
