www.iltanet.org 28 Peer to Peer Release Your Inner ILTAn SmART mOvES M y thanks to all of you who responded when i asked, "so what did you/do you want to be when you grow up?". astronaut, nurse, teacher, fireman, librarian, cop – those are just some of the professions our "inner children" yearned to be at the age of five or still dream of being in the future. i spotted two common threads through many of the replies: memories of the responder's earliest hopes and dreams are still fun and easy to recall – and many of them either wound up doing exactly what they set out to do; or, if they are currently doing something different, their previous interests and experiences had a lot to do with getting them there. oh, and one more commonality – no matter what these iiltans are doing now and how much they love it, they still have hopes and dreams to try other hobbies and professions. i believe one of the reasons ilta is such a successful organization is that we can share our aspirations, not just our experiences. though we may look like grown-ups and sometimes act like grown-ups, inside we're all still five. — Randi Mayes, Editor-in-chief AT FIVE … All I wanted was to kiss my girlfriend in kindergarten. She made my wish come true behind the gerbil cage. NOW … My dad worked in computers, and my neighbor was a truck driver. The former explains my current profession, and the latter is what must have given me my love of travel. Since I never fly to an ILTA conference, people think I'm afraid of airplanes, but actually, I love to fly. I just like to make road trips out of our ILTA conferences. David R. clark Mis Director Jones, Waldo, holbrook & McDonough, P.c. AT FIVE … For as long as I can remember until I was in high school, all I ever wanted to be was a teacher. Looks like I got my wish. NOW … My dream job? To be either a professional motivational speaker or a bass player and backup singer in a nostalgic rock band. You know how shy I am ;-) Joy heath Rush Enterprise End user services Director sidley austin llP AT FIVE … I wanted to be a paleontologist almost before I could pronounce it. I was really fascinated with dinosaurs and other forms of ancient life. Still am. NOW … My dream job today would be doing records/ information management at a small company where I felt I could make a positive difference for the enterprise and the people in it. Hey – that's exactly where I am and what I'm doing! Am I lucky or what? Pilar Mcadam Director legal information systems sheppard, Mullin, Richter & hampton llP AT FIVE … as light as i was at that tender age, i wanted to be a heavy equipment operator. NOW … forty-seven years later my dream job is to have my own record label. What could be more fun than trolling bars and clubs in search of great new music! though being a heavy equipment operator remains tempting. chris Romano chief information officer Ward and smith, P.a.
