6 FALL 2019 Bothways Farm page 60 Nancy E. Berry, Editor P.S. If you have a home design or landscape project that you would like to share, send me an email at nberry@nshoremag.com. T HIS PAST SEPTEMBER, NORTHSHORE HOME AND Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams hosted a panel discussion on trends for 2020. I want to thank our panelists Jean Verbridge of SV Design, Lisa Tharp of Lisa Tharp Interior Architecture + Design, Jacqueline Richie of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, and Holly Gagne of Holly Gagne Interior Design. Some of the words that came out of our discussion on trends were comfort, authentic, well-being, healthy, happy, sustainable, and organic. As we forge ahead into a new decade, it seems we are paring down excess and getting back to basics— creating comfortable, happy, and authentic homes that promote health and well-being. In this fall issue, I loved learning about the young parents who have created spaces in their home that promote togetherness and give their children options other than being tied to their devices 24/7, such as a rock wall and swimming pool. The house, designed by TMS Architects and built by Howell Custom Building Group, is open and airy and welcomes guests—a happy place to entertain friends and be with family. Art and Betsy Dioli found their happy place in a cot- tage on Little Neck in Ipswich that has 180-degree views of the Ipswich River and Crane's Beach. Art, a principal at OLSON LEWIS + Architects, went to task to reimagine the home with an open-concept plan full of windows to allow in natural light and to take in the breathtak- ing views. He says his favorite part of the process was the detailing. He explains: "There's a saying that goes, 'Architecture is what touches the spirit and everything else is just a building." This home truly touches the spirit and celebrates design, function, and form. Interior designer Kristina Crestin, collaborates with architect Sheldon Pennoyer and general contractor Covenant LLC to build a new house on a bucolic piece of property. The team honors the land by building a simple farmhouse on the property using natural ma- terials such as wood and stone. The homeowner's first priority was to create reading nooks and workspaces for her children, but the design also includes areas where the family can come together, such as a large center island and family room. Also in this issue, we celebrate the Best of the North Shore Home Award winners! We congratulate the win- ners and hope to see you at the Peabody Essex Museum on October 23 to celebrate the BONS Home winners!
