FLAGS AND SALUTES A Ceremonious Start To The World’s Toughest Off-Road Race By Dan Sanchez Photos by Jack Wright On race day, the Ensenada sunshine had dried up the pavement and the start of the 52nd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts. The day began with a grand raising of the Mexican Flag over the city of Ensenada. The ceremony drew a huge crowd in the center of town, to witness a rare moment when the Mexican military carries out the huge flag before it is lifted and saluted by government officials and police who were in attendance, including Baja California Governor Jaime Bonilla Valdez. Racers Recognized on Ensenada Walk Of Fame Ensenada’s Walk Of Fame is dedicated to racers who have won the SCORE Baja 1000 over its 51 years, honoring racers with a tile that showcases the year that they won the race. Before the start of the 52nd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts, city officials, along with the Governor of Baja California Jaime Bonilla Valdez, honored two racers whose tiles were added this year to the Walk of Fame. These included Roger Norman for his 2008 win in the SCORE Trophy Truck division, and Apdaly Lopez for his 2017 SCORE Baja 1000 win in the SCORE Trophy Truck division. SJ
