Tatu Collector Card Series by: Kim James his season Sidekicks fans not only get to watch their team defend the 2001 WISL Championship, but they also get a chance to take a piece of history home after each home game. For a remarkable 18 years, Tatu has lead his teams to championships, broken records and dazzled fans with his fancy footwork and undying love for the game. This season he will become the only player to play in all six modern leagues. In a tribute to his greatness, the Dallas Sidekicks, with Donruss Trading Card Co., will honor Tatu with his very own collector card series. The eighteen-card collector series depicts Tatu in each of his eighteen seasons as a Dallas Sidekick. With eighteen games on the home schedule, the first 3,000 fans to each will receive a new card. The series will begin with the 1984-85 card, Tatu's first season with the Dallas Sidekicks, at the Sidekicks home opener on September 28th, as they take on the Philadelphia KiXX. Each subsequent card will depict a photo of Tatu from that season, along with T statistics and a biography of his season achievements. A few of the cards in the series are well worth waiting in line for. The 1986-87 Championship Year card displaying Tatu and his first Dallas Sidekick Championship is sure to be popular, along with the 2002-03 season card that will be handed out at the last home game. The 2002-03 card will compile Tatu's awards and accomplishments in his eighteen years with Dallas. Fans can purchase missed cards in the gift shop after the card has been released. Complete sets, as well as a very limited number of uncut sheets, will be available for purchase at the end of the season. Not many fans are lucky enough to catch Tatu's jersey after he makes history, but 3,000 fans are guaranteed to take a piece of history home with them each game this season. omeone once said something to the effect of, "You can marry a Kennedy and you can bear the Kennedy name, but you'll NEVER ACTUALLY BE a Kennedy". H a v i n g suffered a decade from an intense inferiority complex, professional indoor soccer is on the verge of breaking out of its JackieO Wannabe syndrome. Longing to be accepted by the outdoor guys has always been a futile pursuit of this sport – a lose-lose scenario. The more indoor soccer has tried to pander to traditionalists, like a desperate love-sick teen, the more it has been patronizingly rebuffed as the trailer trash of the soccer world. And yet, with only 18 million of America's 270+ millions residents identifying themselves as participants or spectators of soccer, the indoor game has been adapting at times to satisfy just 6.5% of the nation, further alienating the remaining sports masses, whom it critically needs to connect with Saturday, September 28 1. The MISL experienced greater achievements in its first dozen years than its outdoor counterparts have yet to enjoy. Nonetheless, many within indoor soccer have accepted an inferior role and worse, sheepishly apologize for its distinctions from outdoor. Instead of viewing indoor soccer's differences as assets and improvements upon an imported game, which to many Americans arrived in this country with even less sex appeal than Margaret Thatcher in nothing but a pair of Umbros, the stewards of indoor soccer readily beat themselves into second class citizenship. The first mistake of indoor soccer was to call itself…indoor soccer. When Saturday, October 19 14. Dallas at Philadelphia 15. Milwaukee at Baltimore 16. San Diego at Kansas City Friday, 17. 18. 19. We don't associate artificial turf, dashboards, plexi-glass and a climatecontrolled environment with that image. Soccer, as traditionally defined, doesn't begin to resemble this other game.
