The Remuda | Fall 2023 Edition 29 Student Spotlight Alaina was yet another one of our great volunteers from this years Symposium. She is class of 2026 at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine. Alaina grew up in Azle, Texas, and has a goal of becoming a mixed animal practitioner in North Texas after she graduates. Not only has she been involved in TEVA, but she also served as the Christian Veterinary Fellowship Vice President SCAAEP Treasurer. One of her favorite experiences so far in vetmed is when she did a feedlot internship and was able to learn more about the cattle industry. She was also the recipient of the Old Gray Mare award (2022) and Veterinary Practice Owner Scholarship in 2023. She grew up riding and showing at small English horse shows and then she rodeoed in high school and college. Today she shows reined cow horses in the NRCHA. Some of her favorite hobbies are riding and showing horses, and breeding AKC Australian Shepherds. She is also involved in the women's and young adult ministry at Harvest Connexio Church and leads a bible study within the TTU CVF. Home renovations are her newest hobby and she has installed flooring, fixed fences and revamped walkways. She'd like to leave with one of her favorite verses, "The horse is made ready for the day of the battle, but victory rests with the Lord." — Proverbs 21:31 Thanks for being a part of TEVA, Alaina! She can be reached at alainawi@ttu.edu. ALAINA WILLIAMS Ryan is a class of 2026 future veterinarian from TAMU-VERO that we got to meet during the Symposium this year. Ryan grew up in Castroville, Texas, and intends to follow a food animal track with an internship after graduation. In addition to being an active TEVA member, he is a member of Student Chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the Student Chapter of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners — VERO Representative, and Member of the Student Chapter of the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners. "There are so many I can choose from, but I would say anything I do with animals, gaining knowledge, and meeting influential people is a good experience in Vetmed." When asked about his favorite TEVA experience to date, he said, "My favorite TEVA experience was going to the convention this past summer. I had the opportunity to meet my future colleagues from the Texas Tech SVM program and the Texas A&M SVM program at College Station. Meeting so many enthusiastic people about equine medicine was really an eye opener into this profession and the many pathways it provides." Ryan does not have the typical background of most TEVA student members. He was not always surrounded by horses or had much horse experience until undergrad at West Texas A&M (WT). "I focused more on the stock show industry and building up my career and show goat herd. At WT, I took classes in horse reproduction and sciences, which influenced my desire to work with horses as a large animal veterinarian." Thanks for being a part of TEVA, Ryan! He can be reached at rtomaselli@tamu.edu. RYAN TOMASELLI
