Page | 10 (Updated August 8, 2024) Hands-On Learning | Shipshape Distribution with Latitude Manifest & Shipping System Let's go over the options on this screen. Enable Best Way Selection – If you want this custom service to perform the best way functionality, you need to check this box. For our example, we do - so this is checked. Enable Carrier Assignment by Weight – By default, best way selection is determined by the lowest rate, however if you wanted to drive carrier selection based on the weight of the package, you could check this box and then define the From/To weights in the carrier section below. This is often used if you want to ship light orders via small parcel but heavier orders, over 150lbs, for example, via LTL. Maximum Days in Transit – If you set this to a value other than 0, the best way selection will be based on the lowest rate that will get the package to its destination within the time frame defined by this value. This is often useful because a UPS Ground shipment may get a package to its destination in 1 or 2 days so there would be no reason to charge the customer 3 times as much to use UPS Next Day Air or UPS 2 nd Day Air. The grid in the screenshot above is where the list of carriers that this Best Way carrier will rate against. With the configuration above, it will rate both UPS Ground and a carrier called AALOCL (AA Local Delivery Service) and choose the one that is the least expensive. The Priority value is a numeric value that is used if two services return the same freight charges. The highest priority value will be chosen in that case. Often UPS Ground and FedEx Ground can be the identical rate. This lets you pick one over the other, if equal. You can define as many carrier options here as you like. Remember that the system must rate against each one, so the more you define here – the longer it will take to rate the package. Let's pull up an order that will utilize this Best Way service. 5) Switch back to the LMS Manifest Station and enter #00505 in the "Shipment ID" field and click "Enter". 6) Click "OK" on the "Latitude Integrated Shipping" screen. The package will rate using carrier "100011 – Best Way Rating", which is mapped to use the Custom Service we just went over in the LMS Management Console. 7) To find out what carrier it chose to use, click the "Details" button and then the "Commitment" tab. The "Actual Service" text box shows the service that was selected by the best way custom service. 8) Click "OK" to close this screen and change the weight value to 7 and the package will re-rate. 9) Click the "Details" button again. 10) Now go to the "Commitment" tab. This time you will see that "UPS Ground" was chosen. You can use the "Rate Shop" button that we discussed earlier to see the two rates to verify that it did choose the lowest one. 11) Click "Rate Shop" and check "100008 – UPS Ground".
