Life in Lynnfield
A tight-knit community with small-town roots,
Lynnfield is also home to a burgeoning upscale scene.
By Alexandra Pecci
there's a common phrase that people from Lynnfield use to describe their
town: "Bedroom community." It's a place
that's quiet and small, tucked between the
more populous Lynn and Peabody. Until
the addition of MarketStreet, Lynnfield's
new open-air marketplace, no one but

residents would have had much occasion
to come to Lynnfield.
But beneath that sleepy exterior is a
town that residents love to call home, with
excellent schools, a passion for sports,
important conservation spaces, the headquarters of the iconic New England dairy
brand HP Hood, and intense community
spirit. And, as MarketStreet breathes new
life into Lynnfield's future, 2014 will bring
a celebration of its past with activities
and events to commemorate the 200th
anniversary of the town's 1814 incorporation and the 300th anniversary of its 1714
meetinghouse.
"It still has a hometown feel, especially
around our center area," says Nan Hockenbury, Lynnfield resident and president
of the Lynnfield Historical Society. "It's
quite picturesque."
Among those picturesque spots are
the town center and common, as well as
Pillings Pond, where locals love to fish,
canoe, and relax by the water's edge.
