INJURIES KNOCK OUT TWO A couple of former Boilermakers were forced to leave their respective Wild Card games early due to injury. Nick Hardwick suffered a neck stinger in the first quarter of the Chargers' eventual 27-10 win at Cincinnati Sunday afternoon. He left the game and didn't return. The injury is the second stinger Hardwick's suffered this season, following the first two months ago. Then, he missed only 25 snaps before returning the next week. It's unclear whether he'll be ready for San Diego's Divisional round game at Denver on Sunday. Hardwick was happy his team won but disappointed he wasn't a bigger part. "We just won a playoff game as a team," the center old U-T San Diego. "It doesn't get any better than that." Hardwick, who has spent his 10 NFL seasons in San Diego, has started every game for the Chargers since 2010. "I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Nick," Antonio Gates told the paper. "… Not to take anything away from the other guys, but the guys who have been here and paid that price. You don't really understand how (Hardwick) felt when he went out, because it means so much to him to be in the game." Green Bay linebacker Mike Neal was also knocked out of his game, as the Packers lost to San Francisco on Sunday. Neal was forced to leave during the opening drive after suffering a knee injury. The extent of the injury wasn't publicly known as of Monday morning. j GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 24, EXPRESS 15  •  21
