feature 29 October 2009 iMTra Imtra, based in New Bedford, Mass., has 50 years of experience in the marine business. With sales and support teams in 11 regions throughout North America, there's most likely a group dedicated to helping you find what you need. The Side-Power SX Series stern thrusters are some of the newer models to come from Imtra. The SX80/185T and SX100/185T are specifically designed for stern-drive boats where traditional stern thrusters do not fit. These thrusters offer minimal intrusion through the transom and deliver high-performance control to boats where traditional internal installation is impossible or impractical. Engineered for easy installation, the SX80/185ST weighs 66 pounds, generates 176 pounds of thrust and is ideal for 35- to 48-foot boats. The SX100/185T weighs 88 pounds, generates 220 pounds of thrust and is designed for 40- to 56-foot boats. The SX Series gearlegs are made of seawater resistant bronze, and feature hardened and ground precision spiro-conical gears, five blade composite propellers and easy-to-access zinc anodes. Side-Power SX Series safety features include an overheat sensor with forced shutdown; positive locking connectors that cannot be pulled off or shaken loose; extra webbed silicon for increased resistance to heat and mechanical wear; and the patented IPC system for protection against direct drive direction change, low voltage situations and potential short circuits. Both thrusters are available for 12- and 24-volt sys- tems, and come complete with a one-meter pre-fit control harness cable and battery terminal cables for ease of installation. Side-Power SX Series stern thrusters from Imtra are protected by a two-year limited warranty. Imtra's Side-Power SR Series retractable thrusters are the first retractable thrusters offered by the company. The SR Series is designed to eliminate common problems and risks associated with current retractable thrusters on the market by increasing boater confidence through providing more stress- free on-the-water experiences. The SR series gives you easier docking and departing from a slip, as well as enhanced boat maneuverability. Side-Power SR Series thrusters are installed inside the vessel. When not in use, they are completely encapsulated and locked flush with the vessel bottom, ensuring maximum boat performance. The SR Series boasts an ultra-fast sturdy retractable mecha- nism for deployment and stowage. SR thrusters incorporate industry-leading safety and functionality standards that are found in all Side-Power products, including quiet, high-performance Q-prop skew blade propellers, a lifetime lu- bricated sealed drive mechanism, full galvanic isolation eliminating electrolysis and Side-Power's patented Intelligent Power Control (IPC) technology.
