He recently talked about his top fi ve most annoying offi ce people. 5) The person who insists that every single person in the building must know they're "off on holiday!" 4) The "particularly boring per- son who cycles to work" and then talks endlessly about it, wearing the latest in skin- tight cycling fashion. He calls that guy "the Velodrone." 3) The offi ce twit who succeeds in jamming up the offi ce printer—and then walks away, taking no responsibil- ity and pretending to know nothing about it. How to be more positive Positivity can help you be happier and healthier By Joyce Grant Do you tend to be rather critical or pessimistic? Sometimes we can look at a co-worker and think, "how is she able to be so positive all the time?" When we see that it's raining we may think, "oh great, the drive home is going to be treacherous." Or, "Did I leave my car windows open?" Whereas a positive person might fi nd the beauty in the rain, or think about the fl owers that will ben- efi t. Sometimes it can be diffi cult to stay posi- tive. When you're going through a health issue or a diffi cult work situation, for instance. But that's just when it's most important to be positive, not only for your peace of mind but for your health. Plus, being positive draws people to you and makes them want to support you. Easy to say, but how can you be- come more positive? Here are some suggestions from Lifehack.org. 1) Hang around with positive peo- ple. Positive thinking can be a habit. The more time you spend with positive people the more likely you'll adopt their habit of being positive. Try to steer clear of the negative Nellies. 2) Take responsibility. If you've done something wrong, own up to it; or, if something bad has happened to you, don't give in to the temptation to play the victim. These are negative be- haviours. Instead, step up, learn from your mistakes and above all, make sure you're not blam- ing someone else. That will have positive effects in the long-term. 3) Give back. The quickest way to take your mind off your own problems is to help someone else. That way, rather than fo- cussing on what you don't have you're focussed on what you have to give.
