Sean Gorman approached the council during its May 27 meet- ing in hope of setting up a time to speak with council members about the addition. Town Solicitor Anthony DeSisto told Gorman that a meet- ing could not be scheduled dur- ing public comment and Town Administrator T. Joseph Almond agreed. "I don't believe this is an appropriate forum whatsoever for this type of conversation," Almond said. Town Council President Keith Macksoud told The Breeze that union members have specific channels they need to follow in order to file a grievance and the council should be the last body they present their grievance to. Planning Board members raised no objections to give it a unanimous thumbs-up recom- mendation for passage at their May 28 meeting. Planners also gave a positive recommendation to a plan to move a stone countertop com- pany out to a garage on Pine Swamp Road. Not a single line was changed during Monday's special meeting, so the entire $88.03 million budget was adopted just as McKee pro- posed. As a result, taxpayers next year can expect to contribute $61.5 million in property taxes, up $1.5 million over this year, to help finance schools at $58.48 million and town spending of $29.54 mil- lion. "This is a good budget," declared Craig Dwyer, who heads up the council's Finance subcommittee. "It's a zero percent tax increase. What else can we ask for?" In truth, school board members were asking for more.
