T H E B E S T M E D I C I N E M AT T E R S 3 Over the years, clinical and scientific research has advanced the frontiers of maternity and newborn care — and Mount Sinai Hospital is at the forefront of that change. Beginning as a 30-bed maternity hospital, Mount Sinai has grown into one of Canada's busiest birthing centres. Today, the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women's and Infants' Health is one of the largest programs of its kind in Canada. The Centre welcomes almost 7,000 babies into the world each year — two-thirds of those pregnancies are considered high risk. Family Labour & Delivery Unit will transform the delivery experience at Mount Sinai with spacious birthing rooms, exterior windows, soft lighting and a calming atmosphere — all designed to reduce the clinical appearance of the unit and create a comfortable and welcoming environment. Five operative delivery rooms located onsite will support emergency caesarian-section deliveries. Mount Sinai is well known for its expert care of moms and babies — especially for those in high-risk situations. With the ongoing support of our loyal donors — people like you — the Hospital is poised to continue this tradition for many years to come. Mount Sinai has matched its respected clinical expertise with new, state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and technology designed to improve outcomes and enhance the comfort and privacy of our tiniest patients and their families. Through the support of our generous donors and transformational gifts from the Newton Glassman Charitable Foundation, the Slaight Family Foundation and other community leaders, the Hospital is proud to announce that its new facilities, all part of the renowned Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women's and Infants' Health, will open in early 2015. The grand opening of these units will mark a new era in the care for moms and babies and the completion of Phase II of the Hospital's ambitious capital redevelopment program, which is funded in part by Mount Sinai's $500 million Campaign to Renew Sinai — the largest campaign in the Hospital's history. With these new facilities, patients and families can continue to expect the best possible experience when cared for at Mount Sinai during these life-changing moments.
