Chemical names can be confusing so as well as their chemical names, we have numbered and colour coded all our SPA PRO products to make it easy for you when needing replacement products. We will include pictures of them at the back of this booklet. Sanitation, Water Balance and Filtration are the three basics you need to keep your spa water in a healthy condition. Sanitation Sanitising your spa is essential to ensure your spa water is free of harmful bacteria and to ensure your water is healthy and safe. Sanitising a spa is a little different to sanitising a swimming pool with chlorine. Hot water requires different treatment to prevent the growth of viruses, bacteria and algae. This is because chlorine should never be used in a heated spa as the hot water reacts with the chlorine and gives off a strong smelling gas which can affect airways and eyes. Apart from that it is very unpleasant. Bromine is the sanitising product specifically for use in hot water. The Bromine level should be kept at 3.00-4.00ppm (parts per million). 3
