Rather, when USMX was created, the founders agreed that it should represent the interests of the industry w h e n e v e r a n d w h e r e v e r r e p r e s @ n t a t l o n w a s warranted. As we approach the 15th anniver- sary of USMX's creation, it continues to repre- s e n t t h e i n t e r e s t s o f i t s m e m b e r s o n n u m e r o u s fronts in a variety of forums¸ 1 R A I N I N G USMX continues to oversee the MITAGS training facility at Linthicum Heights, MD, which provides state-of-the-art crane train- ing, as well as reefer maintenance and diesel electrical generator courses. USMX produces, m cooperation with the ILA, state-of-the-art training DVDs and ac- companying program manuals on different aspects of longshore operations and 1hakes these inaterials available to local port asso- ciatlons and USMX member companies USMX has also sponsored training sessions to teach industry training personnel how to utilize these materials in designing effective local training programs. USMX reviews and monitors the aImua] training fund requests submitted to the Container Freight Station fund by the local ports. I N D U S I RY I S S U E S USMX is registered to lobby in Washing- t o n , D C USMX has joined forces with o~er mari- time groups regarding maritime securi- ty-related issues, including an effort to defeat anticipated federal legislation that will require 100% scanning of all con- talners entering the United States¸ LISMX participated as an orlgmal and prominent member of the Marine Trans- portation System National Advisory Council (MTSNAC), which advised the Secretary of Transportation on issues of significance to the marine transportation system including international freight movement and supply chain issues. ~ne US Department of Transportation plans to resurrect MTSNAC and USMX has applied for membership. LISMX monitors the actions of the Na- tional Labor Relations Board, federal and state employment legislation and regula- tions, as well as the actions of labor ad- vocacy groups to determine the potential impact on the industry or the Master Contract and to determine whether in- tervention on behalf of the industry is w a r r a n t e d ¸ LISMX continues to monitor federal and state legislation to protect the industry ~ r o m i n c o n s i s t e n t o r o t h e r w i s e b u r d e n - s o m e regulatory activity¸ LISMX monitors federal activity with re- gard to multiemployer pension fund ob- ligations and regulations¸
