BFGOODRICH'S KO2 TIRE COMBINES THE TRACTION AND PERFORMANCE NECESSARY FOR SCORE DESERT RACING, BUT IS ALSO CAPABLE OF BEING USED ON THE AVERAGE OFF-ROAD STREET VEHICLE. my pre-runner and we've been up and down the peninsula preparing for the SCORE Baja 1000 since." According to Ken Payne, Motorsports Technical Director of BFGoodrich Tires, there are several key aspects of the BFG KO2 tire that help it to survive the harsh environment of desert racing. For example, to help eliminate weak spots, increased rubber thickness has been extended down the sidewall to protect more of the critical failure zones in those areas. A computer predicted object path design was also developed to deflect protruding objects from snagging and splitting the sidewall. For SCORE race vehicles that need to blast over 1,000 miles in one breath, having a long lasting tire is just as important as the guy who owns a 4x4 pickup truck and needs those tires to last countless miles on the highway and dirt. Increased tread life on and off-road has been addressed with specially formulated tread rubber. BFG uses rubber that is optimally blended to reduce chipping and tearing for superior gravel road endurance. According to Payne, the advanced tire footprint shape results in more evenly distributed stress, which translates into longer more uniform wear. BFG also added an Interlocking Tread Design which provides increased tread block stability for even wear over the long haul. Special attention was also paid to the tread design to prevent stone retention and drilling, a problem that Payne says 054 SCORE JOURNAL
