TOM LEIGH into the race truck and headed to Check Point One with the assurance that time was still on the team's side. Kroeker started hitting his marks, moving the truck down range at a quick pace. Now, the goal was to finish the race within the allotted time of 49 hours, and they still had their shot at the championship. Kroeker was covering solid ground and making progress when transmission troubles reared their ugly head. The trials and tribulations would continue. The clock was ticking, but Mills team was unstoppable. Close to RM 472, crewmembers and the chase truck with a fresh transmission was waiting for Kroeker at El Crucero. Kroeker pulled in, ran the truck up on the trailer and the crew went to work swapping out the transmission. Kroeker was soon back in the hunt. His mission, now, was to get the truck to Taylor Mills and let the man finish his race before the race clock hit the 49 hour limit. Meanwhile, Mills was blazing at the bit until Kroeker was able to get to him and hand the truck over for the southern section of the race course. Once Mills and his co-driver, Josh Huff, got into his truck at RM 650, the rest of the race went without major upheavals, and he finished the race in La Paz for a fourth place class finish, and the Trophy Spec Class Championship. Mills team beat the clock by less than two and a half hours, but they did beat it. Their total time was 46:29:04:094. Mike Meeks won Class 8 in the #824 Mills Motorsports Dodge for a second Class Championship with a comparatively trouble free race time of 35:21:25.695, and the only Class 8 sled to finish the race intact. On top of going home with two SCORE Class Championships for 2014, Taylor Mills and his team won the Milestone Award for completing all 2,315.8 miles in all the SCORE races of the season. After the race, Kroeker put things in perspective, and speaking about the entire 30 man Mills Motorsports team. "They do whatever it takes," he said. "This is a classic Baja story, and a testament to how much we care." SJ AT FIRST, THE REPORTS CAME IN THAT THE #841 TRUCK WAS TOO BADLY DAMAGED TO CONTINUE. BUT THE TEAM WORKED FRANTICALLY ON IT AND GOT IT TO THE POINT WHERE IT COULD BE DRIVEN TO THE FINISH. 073 SCORE JOURNAL
