BASKETBALL RECRUITING slated for March 7. "There are a lot of schools that I re‑ ally like," Thornton told USA Today. "I'm just not sure about things, but I want to put everything I have in to trying to win a national title right now. I don't want anything to be a distraction. After we play our last game I'm going to look at everything a lot closer." MICHIGAN, OSU BATTLE FOR COLUMBUS NATIVE SETH TOWNS Columbus (Ohio) Northland's Seth Towns (6‑7, Rivals.com's No. 124 ju‑ nior nationally) earned a Michigan offer last year, but he's been in no rush to make a decision. He was back in Ann Arbor Feb. 22 for the Wol‑ verines' 64‑57 win over Ohio State, a game between two of the teams highest on his list. The Buckeyes hadn't shown much interest until offering before his ju‑ nior year. His mother 's alma mater quickly shot to the top of his list with Michigan, which has been on him for a few years now. "It was a good overall game, a good win for Michigan," Towns said. "The atmosphere was great like al‑ ways, but they really played more together than I've seen them play. The whole season I've watched them play, and that game really impressed me. "I was really just taking it all in, two of my favorite teams, and root‑ ing for both of them. It was a good overall game, though, a battle. I fig‑ ured Ohio State would make a run, and I was waiting for it. Michigan just made some really big shots at the end of the game." Towns has made his share of shots this year, too, averaging 24 points per game in the regular season with monster games of 47 and 37 points. "I've pretty much been concen‑ trating on my season," he said. "I went to Purdue and then a few OSU games, but those were like 10 min‑ utes away." Michigan, meanwhile, has been down to see him twice this year. "They're really feeling me," he said. "They like how I'm playing and have been really impressed with my season. They see me just like OSU, coming in and being a scorer, a huge part of the organization, being a leader." Towns helped lead his team to a 64‑50 win over visiting Hilliard Darby in a Division I sectional final March 13 with 15 points, eight re‑ bounds, three steals and one blocked shot. Northland (21‑5) then robbed Gahanna (Ohio) High (22‑4) of a dis‑ trict title March 14, coming back from a 14‑point deficit in the final 2:25 of regulation to win. Towns hit three free throws with seconds remaining to win it, 66‑65, and finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two blocks. ❏ On The Web For regular reports on basketball recruiting, plus videos of all the top prospects in the nation and Michigan's commitments, visit TheWolverine.com.
