MICHIGAN RECRUITING linebacker nationally and the No. 12 overall player in the country. He re- cently spent March 12-15 in Ann Ar- bor, showing that his interest in the Wolverines is legitimate. It's worth noting that Michigan's No. 1 quarterback target, Santa Mar- garita Catholic's K.J. Costello, also hails from California. The coaches have put a premium on the skill posi- tions in California and have offered five wide receivers and five athletes from the state. In Florida, the Michigan coaches have also identified more wide re- ceivers than any other position by offering five. Florida is known for producing speedy football recruits and that seems to hold true at least with the receivers Michigan has of- fered. Viera High School's Tre Nixon and Elijah Stove out of Niceville are both known for their speed, and have both been on record saying they'd like to check out Michigan at some time during the offseason. The top rated player with a Michi- gan offer from the Sunshine State is outside linebacker Rahshaun Smith out of IMG Academy in Bradenton. Smith was originally from Baltimore St. Frances, but now that he's in Flor- ida he's still one of the top prospects around. Rivals.com rates him as a Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West product Caleb Kelly — a five‑star recruit, the No. 1 player in the Golden State, the No. 2 outside linebacker in the land and the No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2016 — is among 23 rising seniors in California who had been offered by U‑M as of mid‑March.
