Besides the fabrics there are note cards, framed
newspaper clippings, and, of course, the tools of her
trade—the large, wooden Acorn press taking center
stage. Hanging beside it are hand-carved linoleum
blocks; shelves loaded with oil-based inks she mixes
and rolls onto the linoleum blocks; and a large assort-
ment of carving knives.
Garrison has a degree in painting from Massachu-
setts College of Art and Design and is a self-taught fiber
artist. She was raised in Lanesville, a remote outcrop-
ping of Gloucester surrounded by the Atlantic on three
sides. "It is a special area. You are very close to the
natural world," says Garrison.
