Tigers top Wizards, surge into D-II finals Tolman faces MSC today at McCoy By KAYlA PANu Valley Breeze sports Writer kayla@valleybreeze.com EAST PROVIDENCE – The Tolman High baseball team left no doubt about it in its Division II Regional Pod I winner-take- all game against West Warwick High last Saturday afternoon, as the Tigers belted out 15 hits and received a strong performance from sophomore pitcher Peter Microulis in their 10-0 mercy- rule victory at Pierce Field. "West Warwick is a very good team and I have a lot of respect for (head coach) Richard Grenier Sr.," said Tolman head coach Theo Murray. "This is the fifth time we've played them this year, with a 12-inning win, a 4-2 win, and a 1-0 win, and we lost yesterday, 4-3. We were bound to have an explosion, either team, and luckily it came our way." With the win, the Tigers (16-6) moved onto this week's Division II best-of-three finals at McCoy Stadium against Mount St. Charles Academy (18-3). The series began Tuesday, but con- tinues today at 3:30 p.m., and if a third and deciding game is needed, it will be held on Friday at a time to be determined. Mount, which will be seeking its first Division II champion- ship since winning back-to-back titles in 2009 and '10, won its only game of the regular season against Tolman on April 24 by a 9-2 score, also at McCoy. "Mount has a very strong program," Murray said. "They have four pitchers who are very good. We will have our hands full. But we deserve the right to be there." see tolMAN, page 10 EMT Training Classes EMT Basic, Cardiac, Paramedic FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL 401-273-6900 American Safety Programs & Training, Inc. 1117 Douglas Ave., North Providence, RI 02904 Register online at www.asptems.com Classes Begin: ALSO OFFERING: CPR, First Aid, ACLS, PALS, NREMT Basic Preparation Exam We Accept Post 9-11 and GI Bill Announcing Our NEW Cardiac to Paramedic Program!
