udson valley sportsdome in Milton, New
York, recently replaced their 1000-watt
metal halide fixtures with LED stadium lights
by USIndoor member Ephesus. Just 32 LED
fixtures replaced 96 metal halide fixtures,
reducing energy consumption by 75% while
increasing the amount of light and improving
its quality.
Sportsdome owners nicholas pizza and
Marianne Buccellato had been researching
LED lights for their facility for five years. "The
high-bay LED lights that were on the market
were suitable for factory lighting, but not
for arena lighting," explains Nick. "We have
visited several domes that made the mistake
of installing high-bay LED lights. They have
actually had a reduction in brightness, which
was certainly not their intention."
Although Ephesus had installed these stadium
LED lights in several professional stadiums,

they had never been installed to cast light onto
the ceiling of a dome and reflect it down onto
the playing field. Nick Pizza had to convince the
company engineers that this would work in the
87,000 square foot air-support structure.
They're glad he did. It has opened up an
entirely new market for the lighting company.
In fact, Nick advised Ephesus to become a
member of USIndoor and exhibit at this year's
conference in Fort Worth, which they did.
"We were able to reduce our fixture count by
two-thirds, while increasing the amount of light
and improving the quality of light in the arena,"
says Nick. LED lighting provides a brighter and
more uniform light while eliminating shadows
on the playing surface, creating a more natural
environment.

fixtures were starting to fail, requiring
