we were at $10,000. It kept growing and
growing, and I just kept raising it. The fi nal
number is going to be between $36,000
and $37,000. We're going to end up
granting fi ve wishes. I went from making a
donation to granting fi ve wishes to making
a difference."
All of the donors were with Cook in spirit
on the mountain.
"I was completely overwhelmed by how
people got on board," he said. "I ended up
calling all the donors my climbing team.
Some of the donors were verbal donors
who either couldn't afford anything or
just wrote me a nice note. I count them
as a donor too. All 270 of those people
were with me on the mountain. When I
was stuck on that ledge at 20,000 feet and
the guide is saying it's too dangerous it
wasn't just God talking to me in my ear. It
was those 270 people. That said we want
you to come back. I was overwhelmed by
the support of people I never met from 29
states. It's just been so rewarding."
