HOW TO USE THE SPOT GPS SYSTEM on using the SPOT GPS device. When used in SCORE races, the SPOT GPS device immediately sends safety personnel to a downed rider location. " I'm never alone, when I have my SPOT tracker, says SCORE Pro Moto racer Max Eddy Jr. "It gives me peace of mind when I'm out riding by myself." When SPOT is used by consumer riders, it delivers an emergency message to local authorities indicating a rescue or live threatening injuries. According to SPOT, almost two rescues are initiated every day and SPOT delivers location-based messaging and life-saving emergency notification technology to hundreds of thousands of users, completely independent of cellular coverage. SPOT recently announced its 4,000th worldwide rescue since its launch in 2007, with over a quarter of those rescues involving motor vehicles. For consumers and recreational riders, SPOT recommends they read the instructions on the device on how to use it, and offers these additional tips. 1) Make sure that when mounting the SPOT Device, try to place it so that the SPOT logo is facing up toward the sky. This will improve performance as the antenna is located under the logo. 2) Another option is to keep the device on your person so that it can be easily reached it in case of emergency. 3) Make sure that your emergency contacts are updated in the "My Account" section of the SPOT tracking website. 4) Check that the GPS light and transmitting lights are green when sending messages. If they are red, move to a location where you have a clear view of the sky (away from buildings and trees). No matter if it's a full SCORE race or a casual ride in the desert, it's important for riders to have some kind of communication device that has proven to save lives. For SCORE motorcycle and ATV racers, they won't approach the starting line without one. SJ 049 SCORE JOURNAL
