The objective of a head and neck restraint like a HANS© product is to keep the head (with the helmet on) from moving independently of the body, also known as creating an Alternative Load Path. Today's head and neck restraints like HANS© products have proven to be effective across all types of motorsports. HANS© is a trademarked name, much like Velcro©, and today there are many hybrids of the original head and neck restraint being marketed. In this story, not all head and neck restraints are actual HANS© devices but may be variations of it. You should also know that there have been reports of counterfeit devices being sold on the Internet by unscrupulous vendors. If what you are buying looks too good to be true, chances are it is. ONLINE FORUMS FAVOR RESTRAINTS If you spend any time on off- road racing forums, you'll also see lots of threads on the subject of head and neck restraints, not just the HANS© variety either. The smack talk flows for and against SAFETY: HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINTS, THE Z-TECH SERIES 1A ALLOWS YOU TO ADJUST THE DEVICE TO FIT DIFFERENT RACE SEATS AND BODY SIZES/SHAPES. ADJUST THE SHOULDER WIDTH, ARM ANGLE, OR LOWER ARM LENGTH. SHR FLEX, THE NEW FRONTAL HEAD RESTRAINT FROM SCHROTH. DESIGNED FOR OPTIMUM SAFETY, COMFORT, AND EASE OF USE. IT FEATURES SIMPLE SIZING, MEDIUM (UP TO 16 ½ INCHES) NECK OR LARGE. ACCORDING TO SCHROTH, YOU CAN USE A LARGE EVEN IF YOUR NECK IS SMALLER TO GIVE MORE ROOM OVER A COLLAR BONE. 074 SCORE JOURNAL
