2016 ANNUAL REPORT City of Idaho Falls Department of Parks and Recreation A Program for Everyone The staff works together to provide high quality, safe and well maintained parks, trails, athletic facilities, pavilions & shelters, cemeteries, public restrooms and numerous other recreation facilities. The Division also provides citywide special event assistance, snow removal, weed control, the banner program, ice arena maintenance, the holiday lighting program as well as maintenance of all memorials, flower beds, and city turf grass. ACCOMPLISHMENTS • • Two (2) new topiaries of a mother grizzly bear and a mule deer fawn, which were built by local artist Jason Brown, were installed along the west bank of the Snake River on Memorial Drive. • • Improvements to Sportsman's Park included the completion of a Japanese Tea Pavilion, installation of a Japanese lantern and repainting of the Taylor's Crossing replica bridge. Special thanks to 4Sight Security who also helped donate a new security camera system and to Ed Zaladonis who led the pavilion project and the many volunteers who helped maintain the gardens and also helped install a bamboo fence in the park. • • Thanks to a partnership and funding support from the Saint Clair Estates Homeowners Association, the Parks Division installed a new playground, basketball court, fencing and a picnic area in the neighborhood. • • The process of removing and renovating the outfield fence at Melaleuca Field was completed in 2016. The installation of the new 685 linear feet of 16' tall outfield fence consisting of plywood, wood poles, concrete bases, and metal support poles was completed on time and under budget and included painting on both the inside and back of the fence. • • Park Division staff repainted the exterior of the Joe Marmo and Wayne Lehto Multi- Purpose Ice Arena, installed new siding on the inside of the arena and installed new dasher boards for the ice rink. PARKS DIVISION THE PARKS DIVISION is responsible for a myriad of city services. The Division's operational activities are separated into Parks Maintenance, Horticulture & Urban Forestry, Weed & Environmental Control, Irrigation Management, and Cemeteries. 3
