Rd. 42 intersection didn't present any alternatives which brought enthusiasm from Rideau Lakes council. "None of the options come close to what was originally presented," said the Mayor Ron Holman. The original proposal from the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) included straightening the curve of the intersection and creating a 90 degree intersection at the two roads. MTO planner Glen Hig- gins says the traffic num- bers to justify that degree of change for the intersec- tion don't exist. "There are no collision issues. Volume is not an issue," said the planner who brought potential short term and long term improvements to the PIC. Higgins said volume on the highway has actually decreased since the origi- nal proposal. Potential short term improvements include nar- rowing the intersection to reduce the number of lanes down to five from six. They include a turning lane, through lane and a right turn lane. A second potential short term solution would be to align the intersection at a 90 degree angle with changes to the route of Cty. Rd. 42 on the east and the west ends. The design could eventually be adapt- ed to incorporate a round- about. Long term solutions put forward at the PIC include two visions of creating a T-intersection north of 42 which would force west- bound traffic to go south to join Cty. Rd. 42. Mayor Holman would like council to agree to send a letter to the min- istry restating previous concerns which haven't been addressed in the most recent proposal. Lanark Fights Lyme founder Myrna Lee would like to create a support group to help sufferers from the disease in the region and advocate to government. Lee has been an advo- cate for her daughter who, after more than a decade, was diagnosed with Lyme disease and found some relief after finding appro- priate medical care. Like many others, she has discovered diagnosis and treatment for the dis- ease in Canada is ineffec- tive with inaccurate testing and a standard of care which prevents patients from getting the doses of antibiotics needed. The disease is transmit- ted from ticks. Canlyme, The Canadi- an Lyme Disease Founda- tion provides the public and medical professionals, with information on Lyme disease and related co- infections at their site www.canlyme.com An information meet- ing last week which Lee hosted at St. John's High School in Perth attracted around 50 people, includ- ing sufferers and those seeking new information. A presentation by Lanark Leeds and Grenville Medical Officer of Health Paula Stewart outlined preventative mea- sures the public can take to lower the risk of acquiring a tick bite as well as prop- er procedures for tick removal. Information about pre- vention is available on the health unit's website at www.healthunit.org Myrna Lee can be con- tacted at ontariofightsly- me@gmail.com. The Mississippi Rideau Septic Office (MRO), which supplies services to the Township of Rideau Lakes, only managed to make 49 of 100 mandatory inspections in 2016. The MRO has commit- ed to completing those 51 inspections along with the next 100 mandatory inspections for 2017. They work in conjunc- tion with the township building department which has been performing 50 voluntary inspections a year. The cost for the pro- gram is anticipated to be $14,105 for the services of the MRO and additional costs within the depart- ment's budget for the in- house inspections.
