SEASON OPENER SCORE World Desert Championship season opener sets pace for historic anniversary year! The SCORE San Felipe 250 season opener set the bar high for what is to be expected for the 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship Series! Record on-site crowds enjoyed the many changes implemented to this legendary “challenging” race, now completing its 31st year. SCORE’s changes to make the race even more memorable came with the new race date, making the race fit many more team schedules and great weather, which resulted in an increase of over 40+ teams over the previous year. The previous year’s entries were also 22 entries over the prior year, showing a great trend for SCORE for this historic race event. Additional new items integrated for this year’s race week was the long anticipated Start / Finish line area move from the traditional “San Felipe Arches” area outside town to actually on the ocean at the beautiful Malecon district! This area has also hosted the SCORE San Felipe 250 Contingency for many years. This was a much improved way to end this great race with teams and fans being able to be more involved. Finally, the new introduction of a qualifying event taking place the day before Contingency, added new excitement to the week with an opportunity for the teams to secure a potentially great starting position and for SCORE to test out the Facebook and score-international.com live show with the new addition of Drones, taking the viewing experience to a new exciting level. Last item, but perhaps the most important was the fact that this extremely challenging course, was free of any major injuries and the finish rate was the highest of ANY SCORE event in many years, illustrating the drive and determination from the participating teams to finish.
