WINTER2018 7 nearly 10,000 square feet. You can also test how a wall may do in your facility by renting a portable wall under 500 square feet. One of the great things about climbing walls is there is no regulation on their size and or design. Mark Grossman recently added climbing walls at Sports Center of Richmond. He says, "Climbing gyms do not need a clear span of space as many soccer or sport related tenants do. Therefore, climbing gyms can be a great revenue source for previously underutilized space. This allows walls to fit into any unused space." In addition, many companies agree to let you help in the design, so finding the right wall can be as easy or challenging as you need. In fact, the most strenuous part of implementation is the development and creation of the wall itself. Each facility has different needs the wall must accommodate, which is why it takes time to develop plans for the structure. Many companies, such as Eldorado Climbing Walls, pride themselves on customization. "Our team has the expertise, experience, and creativity to create a climbing wall that matches your vision, facility, user group, programming, and budget," the company says. Eldorado walls are known for their unique design and structures. However, if that is not what you are looking for, there are many other facilitators known for simpler construction. Extreme Engineering Walls are top class when it comes to the simpler stationary walls that don't cost so much. They have a smooth texture, and rectangular shape, meaning low cost and easy development. The downside is they lack creativity and cannot be designed to fit any unusual layout your facility might require. Whether you are looking for a standard or creative wall, there is a wall out there for you. COST Rock climbing walls vary in price depending on size and structure; however, they tend to stay relatively inexpensive. Portable walls tend to cost a few hundred dollars per hour, though size and any transportation costs can cause this to vary.
