There were two men on the building committee that were present during the raising of the statue onto the top of the Court- house, one with the last name Glass- ford (a man of smaller stature), and one named Grant (a very tall man). Mr. Grant often made fun of Mr. Glassford's height. As they were preparing to raise the statue to the roof, people were shouting that she needed a name. To finally get the better of Mr. Grant, Glassford said that she was big enough to be Grant's wife. It isn't known for certain if Grant's wife's name was actually Sally, or if they had just picked a common first name, but the name stuck, and even the current statue on the Brockville Courthouse is Sally Grant II.
