F I N A N C I A L R E P O R T 2 0 1 7 1 M y Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-1925) lived only a short time here on earth. He died of polio at the age of 24. What he lacked in longevity, however, he made up for in intensity. In 1977, after viewing an exhibit of Pier Giorgio, Pope John Paul II declared, "Behold the man of the eight beatitudes who bears in himself the grace of the Gospel, the Good News, the joy of salvation oered to us by Christ." It is because of his joy and enthusiasm for life that I named our newest Catholic school Frassati Catholic Academy. Pier Giorgio's commitment to excellence in all things is captured by his motto, "To the Heights," and I have decided to borrow it for this nancial report for the scal year that ended June 30, 2017. I invite you to take a moment to read over the following pages, and see for yourself the commitment to excellence that is being fostered throughout the archdiocese. ere are many accomplishments to highlight from this last scal year, but I will limit myself to two. First, we opened the cause for canonization of Servant of God Julia Greeley, a woman who was herself dedicated to excellence in the service of Christ and his Church. It would be an honor for the entire archdiocese if this woman, imbued with the spirit of the Gospel, would be proclaimed a saint of the Catholic Church. Second, the opening of Frassati Catholic Academy is an accomplishment we can all take pride in. Opening a new school when many are closing shows a bold commitment to the future of the Catholic Church here in northern Colorado. I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to review this nancial report, and for your continued support of the Archdiocese of Denver. May God bless you and your families! Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Samuel J. Aquila, S.T.L. Archbishop of Denver Letter from the Archbishop " See for yourself the commitment to excellence that is being fostered."
